100 Hour Astronomy Marathon in Strathcona County
The 100 Hours of Astronomy Marathon in Strathcona County is an event hosted by Cosmic Journey Inc. at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. The Centre is located a half-hour east of Edmonton within Strathcona County.
The Strathcona Wilderness Centre is a located within the Beaver Hills Moraine. The moraine is extensively treed, upland area consisting of rolling to hummocky terrain rich in wetlands and aspen-dominated Boreal mixed wood forest habitat.
The Strathcona Wilderness Centre is also within the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve. It is one of Canada’s newest preserves. What better place to celebrate the sky during the International Year of Astronomy (IYA).
The 100 Hours of Astronomy Marathon is a cornerstone event within this special year and Cosmic Journey Inc. is offering to the public and other stakeholders the opportunity to share in this celebration.
Cosmic Journey working with its partners and sponsors is hosting a marathon in the same spirit intended by the IYA organizers to host a free to the public experience under the protected skies at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. The marathon event is exactly that, Cosmic Journey will be engaged in activities day and night between midnight April 2 to 11:59pm April 5, 2009.
